The community of Canton is getting excited about its new performing arts center.
The nearly $12 million building will be ready in the next few months. The first event taking place inside will be a Veterans celebration in November.
Canton School District Superintendent Terry Gerber says having the center attached to the high school will be great for fine arts students and teachers. The facility will also host concerts and more. Crews are getting into the finishing stages of construction right now.
“It’s a grand facility. State of the art. Sunken orchestra pit with a mechanical lift. Acoustics. It’s going to be a great facility for our community,” Gerber said.
Canton football fans will have to dodge some construction materials this Friday night. The high school team hosts Sioux Valley on the field right behind the new center at 7 p.m.
