Fireball festival in El Salvador

National & World News

A very peculiar festival is held in San Salvador every year the night of August 31.

Two groups of people throw fireballs at each other in the streets of San Salvador.

The festival remembers the eruption of the San Salvador volcano in 1917.

Organizers say this is the 97th year of the festival.

The Salvadoran government has declared the tradition as a “cultural heritage” of the country.
