SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – Saturday, April 27 is National Drug Take Back Day.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has set up 6,000 sites across the country to help people get rid of old or unused prescriptions.
That includes 18 locations in South Dakota. Fifteen counties and the Standing Rock and Lower Brule Reservations will host drop-off locations.
The service is free and anonymous.
Every year, America loses more than 70,000 people to drug overdoses. That is more than the capacity of the Minnesota Vikings’ U.S. Bank Stadium. In 2017, an estimated 3.2 million Americans reported misusing prescription pain relievers within the last month.
