More South Dakotans Filing For Unemployment Because Of Government Shutdown

KELO Unemployment

The number of people filing for unemployment insurance in South Dakota because of the federal government shutdown keeps increasing.

According to the South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation, 260 federal employees have filed claims as a result of the furlough.

That’s up from 227 last Wednesday.

If the shutdown doesn’t end today, some 800,000 federal workers will miss another paycheck on Friday.

That would be the second time federal workers have gone without pay since the shutdown began 32 days ago.

Several area organizations, banks and restaurants are offering ways to help those impacted by the shutdown.

You can find them here.
