Mitchell and Pierre will both lose their Kmart stores this spring, putting nearly 100 people out of their jobs.

Sears Holdings is shutting down 100 to 120 Sears and Kmart stores nationwide to reduce expenses as it changes it business model.

The Mitchell store will start a liquidation sale on January 24 and close to the public in mid-April.  It has 52 employees.

The Pierre Kmart’s liquidation sale will start on January 14 and will close in mid-March. That store has 45 employees.

There are no plans at this time to close any other South Dakota Kmart stores.

Customers with layaway contracts can either pay it off early or transfer it to another store.
