County Emergency Managers are also preparing for flooding along the Big Sioux River.
Jason Gearman with Minnehaha County says surrounding counties are sending in tens of thousands of sandbags. Those sandbags will then be handed out to cities to give to people to protect their property in case of flooding.
“We don’t have the resources to deliver sand to people, people are also going to have to find sand and what’s happened in the past esepcially in Renner who has a lot of experience with this, what they’ve been doing is, they will get a stock pile of sand and they’ll set up a station and people from the city that want sand bags can come fill their own sand bags,” Gearman said.
Gearman says he needs to meet with city leaders to figure out the best way to get sandbags to the people who need them.
