If you’re looking to adopt a pet, there’s an extra incentive through April.

Beds by Design, a custom bed business on Louise Avenue and the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society are coming together to help homeless pets right here in KELOLAND.

They’re a lot smaller than the beds usually made in the Beds By Design mattress factory. But to mattress engineer Dirk Kool, they’re just as important.

“A lot of people love their pets and if you want your pet to sleep comfortably, you might as well be sleeping on what humans do too,” said Kool.

Close to 350 dogs, cats and small animals are waiting for a forever home at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society. But this month, if you adopt, not only will a pet receive a forever home, but they’ll get a place to lie their heads as well thanks to Beds By Design.

“There are a lot of additional costs and a dog bed and a cat bed could be one of them. So sometimes it could be a $50 to $60 cut right away so the dog sleeps a little bit more comfortably so we do like to help out with that,” said Kool.

Allison Kolander of the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society said the free beds may be the first bed an animal has ever had.

“They go through so many changes when they’re at the shelter, like coming in, and they’re in this spot where they don’t really know maybe what’s happening so then to send them home to a family that’s going to love them for a really long time and to send them home with a bed is kind of a nice perk,” said Kolander.

Both organizations hope the perk helps the animals find their forever homes.

“Kind of two very different organizations but kind of coming together for a good cause,” said Kolander.

“It’s a lot of fun to work here especially when we can give back to the community like we’re doing now,” said Kool.
