Man Dead After Shooting In An Akron, IA Home

One man is dead tonight after a shooting in an Akron, Iowa home.

Early Friday morning, Plymouth county authorities were called to a home in rural Iowa.  That’s where they found a man who had been shot. He died at a hospital.  Police say the suspected shooter is 33-year-old Becky Hebert.

Police say they’ve been called to the home in the past for domestic abuse incidents. This morning police also say that there was a fight or argument leading up to the shooting.

Even though the shooting happened just after midnight, authorities didn’t arrest Hebert until noon on Friday.

“At that point in time she was a person of interest but we did not feel comfortable or have enough information to make an arrest,” said Mike Van Otterloo, Sheriff of Plymouth County.

Sheriff Van Otterloo says others were at the home as well.

“We also know that there was at least one witness to the shooting and there were some other individuals in the residence at the time that this happened,” said Van Otterloo

Now, comes the task of figuring out exactly what led to the shooting.

“We have some interviews to continue to conduct. We did some of those early this morning but some that we now, after learning some additional things, go back and re-interview,” said Van Otterloo.

The Sheriff says they’re in a good place in the investigation and are hoping to wrap it up soon.

“I think we’re just going to continue to focus on getting our officers some rest, getting reports done, so that we can move forward in the next week and over the weekend,” said Van Otterloo.
