Woman Admits To Selling Heroin As Part Of Plea Deal

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - We have an update on a Sioux Falls drug ring involving heroin and fentanyl.

Shania Hofer has reached a plea deal with federal prosecutors.   Court papers say she admits to selling heroin to a man who overdosed in April.  First responders had to use two doses of Narcan to save him.

Authorities later found out the heroin Hofer sold him was laced with fentanyl.  The synthetic opioid is 50 to 100 times more potent than heroin.

Hofer has pleaded guilty to distributing a drug resulting in serious bodily injury.

She faces a minimum of 20 years in prison and a maximum of a life sentence and a million dollar fine.
She'll be sentenced in January.

Court papers link Hofer and to at least two other people facing federal drug charges.  The documents connect Maurice Cathey and Corrod Phillips to multiple overdoses and at least one death.
