WESSINGTON SPRINGS, S.D. (KELO) — A Wessington Springs man was sentenced to life in the state penitentiary in a first degree manslaughter case.
In October of last year, 39-year-old Mitch Caffee forced his way into 90-year-old Lorraine Redmann’s home and shot her in the head. He initially claimed it was an accident.
In June, he pled guilty to manslaughter and other charges.
Caffee’s sentencing took place Wednesday afternoon in Jerauld County.
“Mitch Caffee’s actions resulted in the tragic death of a well-respected member of the community. Lorraine Redman will be missed by not only her family, but to all who knew her,” Jerauld County States Attorney Dedrich Koch said in a news release about the sentence. “The hope is this sentence will bring some closure to the family in this very difficult case.”
