SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — It was a beautiful morning to get out on the water and the Great Cardboard Boat Race allowed kids and adults alike to experience a new type of boat ride.
Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation hosted the boat race at Kuehn Family pool Saturday morning. Racers today ranged from youth participants all the way up to some adult racers from Dordt College.
Here’s what youth racers Dexter and Piper had to say when we asked what they liked about racing their boat, The Narwhal.
“Um that I finally got to row a boat. I wanted to row a boat. I got on paddle boards and it kind of reminded me of that,” brother and sister racing team Dexter and Piper said.
The morning was filled with fun and excitement for the racers. And hardly any went overboard.
Early morning rain didn’t stop the Cardboard Boat Races Saturday morning in Sioux Falls.
The Sioux Falls Park and Recreation Department hosted the event at Kuehn Park as kids of all ages showed off their temporary vessels. KELOLAND News Intern Lauren Soulek was at the races and will have more coverage on-air and online for KELOLAND Weekend News.
