UPDATED 11:00 a.m.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A shoplifting call led to police finding a suspect in an overnight stabbing.
Early Thursday morning, a man and three women were at a home in the western part of Sioux Falls when an argument broke out between the man and his girlfriend. One of the other women tried to break the argument up when the man stabbed both of them.
Then, the third woman tried to leave the home and the man stabbed her too before running away.
Although the man was gone by the time police got there, they had a good idea who he was and were on the lookout for him.
Just a few hours ago police got a report of a shoplifting near Cleveland Avenue and East 10th Street. When officers got there, they realized the shoplifting call was on the same man who was the suspect from the stabbing.
So he was arrested and charged with aggravated assault for the stabbings and was also charged for the shoplifting.
The three people who were stabbed are expected to be OK. Police said the knife used was a small pocket knife.
Three people were sent to the hospital with stab wounds early Thursday morning.
Sioux Falls police responded to a report of a stabbing around 2 a.m. Thursday morning in the area of West 12th Street and South Melrose Place. When police arrived, they found three victimes with non-life threatening stab wounds.
Police say an argument between two people escalated into one person assaulting the other. Other people attempted to intervene and were assaulted by the same person. The suspect fled the scene and hasn’t been found.
Police say the people involved had some knowledge of each other before the assault happened. An investigation is ongoing.
