SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst checked on cleanup progress from flooding in eastern Iowa Friday.

She met with business owners and workers trying to clear storefronts of flood damage. Ernst praised volunteers efforts within the community.

“I just need to emphasize the Iowans I see, they step up and they’re helping their neighbors and I met with a group of volunteers, and they’re just here because they were helped and they have the opportunity to help other people,” Ernst said.

Ernst says a federal disaster declaration is crucial to help businesses get back on their feet.

However, she did not say when Davenport could expect to see an official Disaster Declaration.
