SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Sioux Falls Police say a suspicious device found in a Sioux Falls neighborhood wasn’t a bomb, it was a homemade firework.
While no one was in danger, police say it was still illegal.
“Anytime a fireworks, there’s a city ordinance that prohibits fireworks in Sioux Falls, but, anytime you take a normal firework basically it’s OK,” Sioux Falls Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said. “But if you modify it in any way, you combine it with other fireworks, then it becomes a improvised explosive device, so that is what makes it illegal. “
The bomb squad was called to 7th and Sherman around 9:30 a.m. Monday.
The investigation was just west of Terry Redlin Elementary school.
