State transportation officials urging everyone to stay off roads if you can

PIERRE, S.D. (KELO)– Governor Kristi Noem ordered state government offices in 52 counties to close as the snow piles up across the state.

Only essential personnel are allowed to report to work.

State transportation officials are urging everyone to stay off the roads if you can.

“If you get stranded, definitely stay with your vehicle. Make sure someone knows before you go out what your route is and stay with that vehicle. You can mark it with a bright colored cloth or flag of some sort and make sure that you just remain there until safety individuals can come and rescue you,” Tina Titze with the SD Office of Emergency Management said.

Titze also reminds everyone to make sure you have an emergency kit with you in case you get stranded in your car.
