South Dakota's Secret Boarding Schools

South Dakota has a secret that not many people know about.

In the early 1900s, there were Catholic-run boarding schools on nearly every reservation.  By law, every child had to leave their families and go to school.

"It didn't really dawn on me what may have been going on but now that I'm older and I think about it something was not right what was going on," John Eagle said.

From day one these kids say they experienced physical, psychological, and sexual abuse from the nuns and priests that ran the school.

On tonight's Eye on KELOLAND, Erika Tordsen talks with the survivors of the South Dakota boarding schools.
