South Dakota closes budget year with $86 million surplus

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — South Dakota closed the 2021 budget year with a surplus of nearly $86-million.

The governor’s office says the total general fund revenue finished $62 million higher than estimated.

Meanwhile, the state expenses came in nearly $24 million lower than budgeted. Following state law the surplus was transferred to the state’s budget reserves.
