South Dakota Attorney General Releases 2018 Crime Report

Local News

South Dakota has just released its crime report for 2018.

And while there’s been progress in some areas the state’s gone backwards in others. Overall, the number of arrests in the state went up.

There were more than 800 more arrests in 2018 than in 2017. One specific area that saw a slight increase was the number of robbery arrests. There were four more in 2018.

But there’s also a lot of positive news in the report. The number of murder arrests went down by eight. And the amount of sex offense arrests decreased by about 30. Those aren’t the only places where numbers went down.

Drug arrests dropped by about 20 and there were around 580 fewer DUI arrests in 2018. Of course those aren’t the only things we’re finding out in this report.

KELOLAND’s Kelli Volk is digging into the numbers. She’ll take a look at more of the results including the high increase of fraud arrests.

She’ll have that story Tuesday on KELOLAND News.
