Cellphone video showing the arrest of an aggravated assault suspect is shining a light on domestic abuse.

We decided to take a look at the numbers Sioux Falls Police have seen over the last few years.
Between 2013 and 2018 — the city has seen a nearly 32 percent increase in calls for service for a domestic aggravated assault.

“Over the last few years things have been fairly consistent. We always see a little fluctuation in the numbers but I’d say over the last probably three years, things have been pretty consistent as far as the number of aggravated assault domestic that we’ve received,”  Sioux Falls Police Public Information Officer Sam Clemens

Clemens says there was a uptick between 2011 and 2013 for aggravated assaults and domestic aggravated assault because of a change in legislation.
