SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A busy street near downtown Sioux Falls was shut down Thursday night after a drunk driver ran into a police car.

Our KELOLAND News crew was able to capture video of the scene. Sioux Falls Police were stopping traffic at 10th Street & Franklin Avenue.

At police briefing on Friday, Officer Sam Clemens said an officer was heading west over the 10th Street viaduct around 1:20 a.m. when they saw a Jeep driving the wrong way. The officer turned on their lights to alert the driver, but the Jeep continued driving toward the police car.

Police say the Jeep ended up hitting the patrol car. The officer reported minor injuries to their knee, and the drunk driver was not injured.

Clemens says the driver was estimated to be going 25 miles per hour.

The 37-year-old man driving the Jeep was arrested on DWI 2nd charges.
