Sioux Falls Man Charged With Manslaughter For Monday's Shooting

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - A Sioux Falls man has been arrested in connection with Monday night's shooting death in the northwest part of the city.

Stasek Stefanyuk, 18, was charged with first-degree manslaughter along with possession of a controlled substance and maintaining a place where drugs are used or sold.

At a residence on the 3700 block of North Galaxy Lane, police say Stefanyuk and Darisu Tiger, 21, of Sioux Falls, were looking at a new shotgun when the weapon went off. Tiger was hit in the back and suffered fatal wounds from the gunshot.

"After the victim was shot by the defendant, 911 was called from that residence and we responded to that location. Life saving efforts were performed on that victim, however they were not able to do anything for the victim at that time so he was not transported from that residence to any of our local medical facilities," Lt. Mike Colwill with the Sioux Falls Police Department said.

Tiger was pronounced dead on scene. Police said a small amount of drugs was found at the scene.

Stefanyuk is expected in court on Tuesday.
