Sioux Falls day care employee charged with assault

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A Sioux Falls daycare worker is behind bars, accused of seriously hurting a little boy in her care.

Court documents say Alysha Lewis told police she quote, “turned into someone she’s not” and purposely struck a two-year old with her knee.

The affidavit say she tripped when she kicked him and landed on the ground with the toddler’s head stuck under her right knee. Police say Lewis estimated she weighs around 450 pounds.

The alleged incident happened late last month at His Ark Day Care Center on West 26th Street.

The cut went from the top of the child’s forehead, through his eye and to his cheekbone.  The cut goes down to the bone and doctors say the child will have scarring.

Witnesses say Lewis has a history of getting rough with children.  She is currently suspended from work.

Lewis is being charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of abuse or cruelty to a minor.
