SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — It’s a holiday tradition here in KELOLAND: the holideck. The tower right outside of our station on Phillips Avenue is lit each year with hundreds of bulbs.
It’s something we’ve been doing during Christmas time for decades. “We always have a lighting ceremony. It’s highly promoted on the television station. And it’s become a part of our downtown culture,” former VP of Operations Joe H. Floyd said.
We’ll light it once again Friday during KELOLAND News at 5 p.m.
The story behind this longstanding tradition may surprise you.
