SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Police believe alcohol was a factor in a crash that sent two people to the hospital early Sunday morning.
Police say an officer was near 14th Street and Cliff Avenue at around 3:20 a.m. when he saw a car speeding north on Cliff. The car ended up losing control near 12th Street and Cliff.
It went into Nelson Park, and took out the park sign before hitting a tree. The driver and a passenger were taken to the hospital.
The 39-year-old passenger was treated for minor injuries and then released. But the driver is still in the hospital with life threatening injuries.
Police haven’t confirmed who the driver was but they say they think they know who he is and he’s believed to be a 24-year-old man.
Although police think alcohol was involved in the crash there won’t be any charges filed until the driver is out of the hospital.
Authorities are still investigating.
