PENNINGTON COUNTY, S.D. (KELO) — A National Guard helicopter has been called out to help crews in the Black Hills who are still working to contain a wildfire that started Saturday afternoon.

The fire, south of Hill City, near the Palmer Creek Trailhead in the Black Elk Wilderness area has burned 91 acres in size and is 40% contained.
The Pennington County Sheriff’s Department is reporting that no structures are threatened at this time.
Crews have closed Palmer Creek Road between Highway 244 and Highway 87, until further notice.

The U.S. Forest Service says the fire is being fueled by grass and timber.
