SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Sioux Falls resident Anastasia Elsinger got a surprise at her doorstep Tuesday afternoon when a police officer delivered her Arby’s DoorDash order.

In a Ring camera video that’s now gone viral on Tik Tok, the Sioux Falls Police officer can be heard saying the DoorDash driver had been arrested for “warrants he didn’t take care of.” So, the officer finished the delivery.

During Wednesday morning’s police briefing, officer Sam Clemens addressed the situation.

“This isn’t normal by any stretch,” he said. “It’s not like we have officers that are out delivering food but the little things like this, going above and beyond, helping people out. That’s the things that we do. And probably more often than people realize.”

“And I’m sure he’s waited a long time for his Grub Hub or his meal and stuff so he was just like, ‘well this is just sitting here, I mean the lady paid for it and everything like she’s going to wonder what happened,” Paige Martin, sister of the officer, said.

Martin says her brother is not the type of person you’d ever expect to go viral on social media and he didn’t want to be interviewed about his last minute delivery.

“Well he’s not like one to talk, doesn’t really like publicity. I mean, I barely get a picture with him,” Martin said.

But now his actions are showing millions of people a moment of kindness and of going beyond the line of duty.

“I’m sure he’s not really liking all the publicity right now but, I mean, cops like him deserve to be recognized because it’s the small things that matter,” Martin said.

“It’s those little things that officers do that can make a big difference and that’s one of the reasons that we do the job,” Clemens said. “Why we have such a good relationship with the community is the support that we get and we recognize that those little things make a difference.”

In her Facebook post, the woman who received the food delivery, thanked the officer for going ‘above and beyond.’ She also said the food was delicious.
