Minnesota Senator seeking mental health resources for schools

Local News

A KELOLAND senator is drawing a lot of attention.

On Wednesday, Senator Tina Smith  spoke on the Senate floor about mental health and shared how mental illnesses affect her personally.

She explained how she has suffered from depression since college. And how dealing with a mental illness isn’t as straightforward as some may think.

“It was a spiral. And the worse things got, the more frustrated I became that I couldn’t get it together. Down and down I went. Until I could no longer even see hope on the horizon,” Smith said.

Smith says she chose to share her story because she wants to urge anyone who struggles with a mental health issue to know it’s okay to reach out and seek help. She’s pushing for legislation that provides more mental health resources in schools.

So what kind of resources are available to students here in KELOLAND? That’s what we’re finding out.
We’re reaching out to local schools to find out what their resources are like.

We’ll tell you what we find out Thursday on KELOLAND News.
