Man suspected in series of hit and run crashes

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Sioux Falls Police are trying to track down the man suspected of a string of hit and run crashes Friday morning.

In a matter of just about an hour, the 27-year-old driver is accused of of being involved in multiple crashes and leaving behind a trail of damage.

Sioux Falls Police says the driver of the black pickup first side-swiped a car near Western and 28th around 7:30 a.m.

A little later, police say the driver hit a couple of parked cars near Edison Middle School.

But given the time of day and the area, it could’ve been worse.

“We know there’s a lot of kids that are walking to school so having a driver that’s been drinking, it’s certainly a concern,” Sioux Falls Police Department PIO Sam Clemens said.

But the driver wasn’t done yet.

At about 8:40 a.m., police were called to 26th and West near Christ the King School.

This driver is accused of running a stop sign and hitting a white pickup, sending both pickups into people’s yards.

The driver of the white pickup and the passenger in the suspect’s pickup were both taken to the hospital, but are expected to be okay.

Clemens says they do know who the suspect is, but they’re working on finding him.

Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors.
