SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - It's been a scary day for the people who live in this building on the northeast side of Sioux Falls. Wednesday morning, one of the units at the Woodland Hills South Apartments started on fire. Nicholas Olson was one of the first people on scene.
"I was getting fuel at Shop 'N Cart and then I saw a little bit of smoke and so I decided to investigate it, when I pulled up here, I came around the back and there was nobody around and I saw the back of the building was on fire," Nicholas Olson said.
As fire and smoke filled one of the apartments, Olson and another man had to act quick.
"We were just beating on doors and windows and screaming at everybody and everybody was running out of the building getting out of there," Olson said.
Law enforcement blocked off roads near the building while firefighters worked to put out the flames.
"There was heavy fire and smoke when our units first arrived on scene, looks to be a fire mainly in the south unit, possible some extension into the next unit over," division chief, Steve Fessler said.
Olson says thankfully no one was hurt.
"We wanted to make sure everybody was out of that building," Olson said.
Authorities say the fire is still under investigation.
