UPDATED: 6 A.M.: Officials with the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office say the body of the man was recovered around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

UPDATED: 10:30 P.M.: The victim of a drowning at the Pactola Reservoir has been located according to authorities.

In a release sent to KELOLAND News, Pennington County authorities utilized technology to locate the victim at a depth of over 100-feet. The process of bringing the body to the surface could take several hours, authorities say.

PENNINGTON COUNTY, S.D. (KELO) — Authorities in Pennington County are searching for a drowning victim at Pactola Reservoir.

The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office says they received a call Wednesday afternoon for a report of a man who was swimming near his boat, went underwater and never resurfaced.

Authorities are asking the boating public to stay away from the area to give first responders room to work.
