Latte Love– Latte Art Throw Down

VERMILLION, S.D. - If you need something to warm you up tonight -- you may want to head down to Vermillion.

The Bean is hosting the Latte Love– Latte Art Throw Down.

"So what it is, is a bunch of baristas from around South Dakota and other states come together and compete making art in lattes," Martin Prendergast said.

An employee came up with the idea after being involved in other latte competitions. To him, it's about more than just the coffee.

"It's not necessarily who's the best coffee shop, it's more about helping each other as a team, as a family," Cristobal Francisquez said.

Helping bring that family closer together is a local competitor who is eager to get the word out.

"A lot of people don't even know what latte art is. I've talked to some people, and they'll get a chance to see what it is and how it's done, so, it should be fun," Daylon Stapp said.

The Bean is donating all of the proceeds from the latte art throw down to the united way of Vermillion.

"It's an awesome opportunity for the community to actually come together and help support this project. Of course, it can't happen without some financial support. Even more than that, it's nice to have an opportunity for people to step up and feel some ownership and feel like they have a part of building something that's going to be great for Vermillion," Chad Passick said.

The doors open at 6 and the throwdown starts at 7. It costs $5 to compete and is free to watch at The Bean in Vermillion.
