DES MOINES, Iowa (KELO) — There was an emotional debate Tuesday in Iowa over a bill to ban gender identity from being taught in schools.
The proposal says parents could sue a school if there’s any instruction about gender identity in elementary or junior high.
It would also forbid teachers from “encouraging” or “coercing” a student to transition to a different gender. Lawmakers heard testimony from people on both sides of the debate.
