Iowa Authorities Warning About Jury Duty Scam

Local News

If you live in northwestern Iowa, be careful about what you believe in a phone call.

Authorities say some people in Plymouth County have gotten calls from someone claiming to be from the sheriff’s office.

The caller said they had a bench warrant for the person’s arrest or that a warrant is out for their arrest because they didn’t show up for jury duty. The scammer is telling victims to get them gift cards or use pay pal to forgive the warrants.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office is reminding everyone that they don’t ask for gift cards or personal information to take care of fines or warrants.

If you get a call like this, you’re asked to call your sheriff’s office.
