Inclusion A Focus For Local High School’s Homecoming

Local News

O’Gorman High School has been busy this week. Homecoming events started on Monday with door decorating, but that’s just the start.

The top ten students, five running for homecoming king, and five for queen have been narrowed down to just two. What you’ve seen in movies about what makes a queen or king is quite the opposite from what’s happening here.

Students in the running for homecoming court say, it’s not a popularity contest.

“It’s easy in high school to follow the crowd,” student Teresa Kayser said. “To be different, and like a good different, and following the good crowd and showing that it’s okay to be different. It’s okay to not be with everyone. Go with the flow.”

Who these kids elected as their queen shows what a good kind of different, really means. Why they say making everyone feel included in the big week is so important, coming up in tonight’s Eye on KELOLAND.
