Fungal disease found in bats at Wind Cave

WIND CAVE NATIONAL PARK, S.D. (KELO) — White-nose syndrome has been confirmed in Wind Cave National Park.

Samples recently sent in for testing revealed two confirmed cases of the disease and five probable. White-nose syndrome is a fungal disease that kills hibernating bats.

These cases are the first confirmation in bats in Wind Cave, although it was previously found in Custer County in 2018.
