PIERRE, S.D. (KELO) — Gov. Kristi Noem announced fireworks will return to the Fourth of July celebration at Mount Rushmore National Memorial, starting in 2020.
Noem said the decision was made after several months of meetings and discussions between the State of South Dakota and the U.S. Department of the Interior.
The last time fireworks were used at Mount Rushmore was 2009. The display was stopped because of concerns related to the pine beetle infestation in the Black Hills National Forest.
