Former Aberdeen doctor sentenced for federal drug charge

Local News

ABERDEEN, S.D. (KELO) — A former Aberdeen doctor is headed to prison.

In November, Troy Adolfson pleaded guilty to illegally distributing drugs.  He admitted to prescribing 1,400 oxycodone pills.  Court papers say he wrote prescriptions for a co-worker and two others.  They’d bring him the opiates in exchange for $50 and some of the pills.

On Monday, a federal judge sentenced Adolfson to 18-months behind bars and $20,000 fine.  The maximum possible sentence was 20 years in federal prison.

His medical license expired in November.
