First Female Veteran Takes Part Of Midwest Honor Flight

Local News

Midwest Honor Flight took its first female Veteran ever to Washington D.C. this week.

Paddy Spangler served in the Army during the Vietnam Era and Desert Storm.

The former tank driver is getting a chance to see the Women In Military Service For America Memorial for the first time. It’s bringing back a lot of memories.

Spangler says when people used to tell her she couldn’t do something in the Army because she was a woman, she would say, “watch me.”

“I actually was infantry and I got to drive a tank. That was fun. I got to blow up a car. It was a lot of fun and I had my own machine gun,” Spangler said.

Spangler is the first female First Sergeant in the history of the Nebraska National Guard.

You can hear more from this amazing woman and other Veterans from Midwest Honor Flight in Wednesday’s Eye on KELOLAND at 10.
