First Cyber Monday After South Dakota vs. Wayfair Ruling

Monday is the last day of the biggest shopping weekend of the year.

It's Cyber Monday!

And this one could feel different. At the center of this is South Dakota.

In June, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down a decision in the case of South Dakota vs. Wayfair. The court said states can force online shoppers to pay sales tax. The decision was seen as a win for states.

That ruling gave states the go-ahead to require more companies to collect sales tax on online purchases.
In general, states have followed the lead of South Dakota.

South Dakota requires sellers who don't have a physical presence in the state to collect sales tax on online purchases if they do more than $100,000 in business in South Dakota or more than 200 transactions annually with state residents.
