PIERRE, SD (KELO) — Officials with FEMA will begin assessing flood damage in South Dakota this week.

According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, FEMA staffers will be checking on property and infrastructure damage in Bennett, Bon Homme, Hutchinson, Jones, Minnehaha, Spink and Yankton counties as well as on the Pine Ridge and Rosebud reservations.

Their assessments begin on Monday.

The information they collect will help decide if federal money will help pay for damage.
