Walkers in Sioux Falls will join nearly one million Americans at 305 events across the country for the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk.
The goal: to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
Heart Walk promotes a fun way to be active and raises money for the fight against the disease.
Chrissy Meyer, Communications Director for American Heart Association in South Dakota says the organization goal, believe it or not, is to be out of business.
She hopes no one dies from the disease and that eventually the resources are not needed.
“So we’re really about educating people about their risk, educating them about what they can do to minimize their risk, and just really trying to spread the word about how you can prevent getting heart disease and stroke,” Meyer said.
There’s still time to register as a team or as an individual if you’d like to walk this Saturday.
The Heart Walk event kicks off at 8:30 a.m. in Fawick Park, with the actual walk beginning at 10.
