BRANDON, S.D. (KELO) — Fire crews from Brandon, Valley Springs, and Sioux Falls responded to a garage fire in Brandon this morning.

KELOLAND News was the first camera crew on scene on East Pine Street where heavy smoke and water damage was visible.

The Brandon Fire Chief Robert Dykstra said that everyone inside the home got out safely.

“Based upon what PD saw when he arrived on scene and our initial viewing when we arrived on scene it looked like it started in the garage and then extended into the house,” Dykstra said.

The fire jumped from the garage into the attic of the home.

Due to the holiday, the Brandon Volunteer Fire Department was short-staffed and had to call in mutual aid from Sioux Falls and Valley Springs.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
