The City of Sioux Falls is preparing to remove some ash trees in the city.
The Emerald Ash Borer was discovered in the area earlier this year.
Crews are now preparing to remove ash trees in the right of way for free.
If you have ash trees in the parking strip and you plan to treat them, call the Helpline Center at 211 and let them know you want to be taken off the tree removal list.
Otherwise, they may be marked with the number nine in October, which means they are slated to be removed.
“This is the same plan that we plan to roll out every year for the next 10 years, of course targeting a different area of town. If we don’t mark your tree for removal the first year, we will be back,” Parks Operation Manager Kelby Mieras said.
If your tree has already been treated and tagged by a licensed arborist, you don’t need to call.
Tree removal will begin in January.
The city has sent out post cards to people who will be affected in the first year of the plan.
