SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -
Three months ago this week, a five-year-old girl died at Falls Park.
A new report is making recommendations to help prevent such a tragedy from happening again.
One of the recommendations in the report is to build a viewing area north of the pedestrian bridge, at the lower falls. It would have a safety railing and viewing platforms. The council also heard a recommendation for a third-party risk assessment of the park. And That got a fair amount of discussion.
At the end of the informational meeting, Councilwoman Christine Erickson spoke before Carnegie Hall.
"It seems as if there's some desire on the council to move forward with a third party review and risk assessment, so if you could get additional information to the council on that, we would appreciate that to see what are the next steps, how does that come about," said Erickson.
City attorney Karen Leonard said hiring a consultant to do the review could cost up to $20,000.
