SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — From piñatas to live entertainment, the Cinco De Mayo Fiesta has something for just about everyone.
“We have free entertainment all day long on our main stage. We have some great bands from Minneapolis and Sioux City that are coming in for the day. We have a kids zone that features inflatables, piñata’s, balloon twisting; we have amazing food vendors,” organizer Jen Rothenbuehler said.
The Cinco De Mayo Fiesta is a fundraiser for a Ministry of the Presentation Sisters, Caminando Juntos.
“It’s a great event to celebrate the Latino cultures among us and to welcome the stranger to Sioux Falls; that’s the theme and mission of Caminando Juntos and just a great family fun day for the entire community,” Rothenbuehler said.
“We sponsor the event because mostly I think our attention was brought to the work the Presentation Sisters do in our community and throughout the state,” Michelle Carlson said.
One of the showstoppers is a Chihuahua fashion show.
“They can bring whatever; it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t have to be related to Cinco De Mayo. People dress their dogs up in whatever and people dress up with their dogs too, so it’s pretty awesome to see the costumes they come up with,” Tess Kirby said.
After three years of strutting down the runway, Bones will be retiring this year.
The 12th annual Cinco De Mayo Festival is happening from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Falls Park in Sioux Falls on May 11.
