Authorities Identify Man Killed In ATV-Semi Truck Crash Near Gregory

An Iona man, who died in an ATV-semi truck crash north of Gregory on Saturday, has been identified. 

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says 81-year-old Vincent Svoboda was ejected from the ATV and pronounced dead at the scene. Svoboda was not wearing a seatbelt. 

An ATV was travelling northbound on South Dakota Highway 47 when the driver slowed down as he neared the intersection of 265th Street. A semi-truck traveling northbound began to merge into the passing lane to avoid the ATV. But the ATV driver also merged into the passing lane as he started to make a left-hand turn and the two vehicles collided.

Liban Gabre, 30, of Tukwila, Washington, was the semi-truck drive. He was wearing a seatbelt at not injured in the crash. 

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
