SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — There was an issue with a bear at the Great Plains Zoo Tuesday afternoon.

Zoo officials said “a bear was not where it was supposed to be.” Officials declared a “Code 1” which alerts the public in the zoo.

Officials stressed the bear was never loose in the public facility.

Khrystyne Hollingsworth was on a field trip with her daughter and other second graders.

She said as they were about to enter the zoo, she heard an announcement for everybody to take cover in an enclosed shelter. She also heard, “this is not a drill.”

They loaded the kids back on the bus and brought them back to school.
