KELOLAND Investigates: Firework hazards

As KELOLAND News first reported, fireworks are returning to Mount Rushmore.

They haven’t been seen since 2009 over the famous faces due to the Pine Beetle Infestation.

However, that changed Tuesday when Gov. Kristi Noem worked with President Donald Trump and the secretary of the Interior to bring the fireworks back in 2020.

Now, KELOLAND Investigates has learned it turns out before 2009… the fireworks were filling the water around Mount Rushmore with a toxic chemical. Angela Kennecke’s full report is on KELOLAND News at Six.

Keystone XL meeting

At a hearing Wednesday in Pierre, opponents question Keystone XL’s need for South Dakota’s water.

Capitol News Bureau reporter Bob Mercer was at the state Water Management Board.

The board’s role is deciding whether to grant permits for the project.

One question raised was whether Gov. Kristi Noem and the state Department of Environment and Natural Resources have worked too closely with TC Energy… the new name of the company building the pipeline.
