SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A liquor superstore is opening in Sioux Falls later this year.
Williquors will be located near the busy intersection of 69th Street and Louise Avenue.
KELOLAND News explains why this is a different business for the city.
It’s a construction hot spot near 69th and Louise. In addition to Avera’s new campus, crews are also working on one of the largest liquor stores in the state.
“This is a destination store. When you get here, you’re going to be amazed,” Williquors President William Klein said.
The 26,000 square foot store will be the second location for the company. The first opened in 2014 in Bismarck, North Dakota.
“We’d been in a different industry for too many years. We decided to move onto maybe a better, happier lifestyle. I’ve always been interested in the alcohol industry,” Klein said.
They decided to go big. The Sioux Falls location will have around 4,000 varieties of wine, 2,000 different types of spirits and more than 1,000 kinds of beer.
“We don’t have a few bourbons. We have shelves of bourbons. We have shelves of tequila,” Klein said.
For the past five years, the owners have been searching for a spot in Sioux Falls. That’s when they landed on the location in the northwest corner of 69th and Louise.
“Being close to the interstate is a plus. The housing district seems to be going to the west,” Williquors General Manager Fred Ibach said.
A growing area for housing and hotels that will soon be home to a liquor superstore.
