Levitt Shell Teams Up With Downtown Sioux Falls For First Show

News

She’s been on the job for three days, and Nancy Halverson is already busy planning the first event for the Levitt at the Falls! The new Executive Director stopped by the site of the Levitt Shell on Wednesday to talk to us about how they’re teaming up with Downtown Sioux Falls!

Right now, it doesn’t look like much… but the Levitt Shell construction should be finished in a few months!

“It’s going really well. Everything is on time. We should be finished with the shell in November and then they’ll be planting seed in the Fall and it’ll all be good,” said Nancy Halverson, Levitt Shell Executive Director.

In the meantime, Halverson is getting ready for the Levitt’s first free concert this week!

“We had the opportunity to host a Levitt national tour of Paul Thorn and the Blind Boys of Alabama. It was just too good of an opportunity to miss, even though we don’t have our space,” said Halverson.

That’s where Downtown Sioux Falls steps in. The gospel, rock show will be taking over First Friday at the 8th and Railroad location this Friday.

While this is technically the first show for Levitt, the first concert on the Levitt Shell site is still a mystery.

Sammi Bjelland: Who will be the first performer?
Halverson: We don’t know that yet! We’re kind of waiting until we can figure out the exact opening date and then I’ll start to book those acts.

Whoever they are, there will be 30 shows next year, and 50 shows every year after that! All with a little different flair.

“We know that people are more likely to attend if somebody on stage looks like them. So that means really reaching into our community and saying, who do you want to see? Let’s bring them in. Let’s make it a part of what we do,” said Halverson.

The Levitt Shell should be hosting it’s own concerts in June of 2019.

The concert this Friday night starts at 7:00. You can find more information about the Downtown Sioux Falls show at their website.
